Zambeef staff take up the health challenge

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Zambeef Products staff joined hundreds of other participants at the 19th Inter-Company Relay (ICR) 2017 in a bid to promote a healthy lifestyle in the work place and community.

“Eating right is a major part of keeping up a healthy lifestyle and so is physical exercise. As a food retailing Company, Zambeef is keen to see our staff and community at large take the time to do both,” said Zambeef Head of Retailing, Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Felix Lupindula.

Mr Lupindula further stated the need to incorporate deliberate initiatives and policies in the workplace and the home that favour healthier cultures as there were several benefits in doing so.

“For the majority of workers who spend more than a third of their at the office or in the field and it is important to incorporate health goals into their work schedules such as carry healthy packed lunch, in the case where an organization does not provide any, or walking whenever possible as a form of exercise in addition to their routines at home,” added Mr Lupindula.

“Taking part in this year’s inter-company relay served to reinforce our standpoint and further engage our audience on the same,” he further noted as he pointed out to the fact that the community in this instance also included Zambeef customers.

The ICR is an initiative by the Zambia Amateur Athletic Association (ZAAA) that seeks to raise funds to develop and promote Athletics in the country, through the Talent Identification Program (TIP), while promoting an Integrated Approach to Health Response and Wellness.

This year’s event which was held under the theme “We Are One”- By Acting Together We Can Win and sought to raise funds to qualify and send athletes to different competitions on the ZAAA Calendar including, the World Cross Country in Kampala, the World U18 Championships in Nairobi and the Senior World Championships in London.

Other activities at the event included testing and screening of various medical conditions, aerobics and tug of war.

The ICR is the country’s largest and most engaging health and wellness-promoting sporting event in the country bringing together participants from both the private and public spheres and across various sectors.

The 42 staff took part in the Relay, Health Walk, as well as the 10km and 21km Individual Races respectively, with Joint Chief Executive Carl Irwin taking part in the CEO’s 100m race as well as the relay. Richard Chama came 5th in the 5km health walk.
